Intimations of Immortality

Wordsworth says it best:

Our birth is but a sleep and a forgetting:
The Soul that rises with us, our life's Star,
Hath had elsewhere its setting,
And cometh from afar:
Not in entire forgetfulness,
And not in utter nakedness,
But trailing clouds of glory do we come

Last Thursday, the dear one, her husband, and I were joined by a beloved baby girl. Trailing clouds of glory indeed.

My very best wishes to you . . . and here are some lines I've always loved from a poem by Galway Kinnell:

It is all over,
little one, the flipping
and overleaping, the watery
somersaulting alone in the oneness
under the hill, under
the old, lonely bellybutton
pushing forth again
in remembrance . . .

"For in my arms I hold
The flower of the Ages
And the First Love of the world."

Hopefully I got that right - a quote taken completely out of context from an Auden poem.

happy news indeed and I must say I'm impressed that you have the energy to put some blog posts up - or maybe that's all you have the energy for.

Anyway - glad to hear the beautiful news, Anne.
